A Special One…
Here is my latest piece, ‘First Dip’. My first storks too! It’s been a long time coming!!
I’m focusing very much on nature this year. I do tend to go off track from time to time but studying and following nature is where my instincts are taking me. Birds seem to be featuring a lot within my work at the moment and I do have a soft spot for storks. This piece has been created with a special cause in mind.
I recently became involved in a fundraising project called ‘Sunflowers For Freedom’. The group is aiming to raise humanitarian aid for the people of Ukraine. They are holding an art auction in Plymouth on the 5th April and the original of this piece will be up for auction on the night. I will be amongst fine company - many local established artists and friends as well as a fabulous piece by the Gruffalo illustrator, Axel Scheffler. This cause is close to my heart as my dear Grandmother was Ukrainian. She passed away a couple of years ago at the age of 93 and I’m comforted by the fact she never got to see what is happening to her home city of Kyiv.
The stork is the national bird of Ukraine and very sacred to it’s people. Storks represent peace, family, loyalty and patriotism. These are the reasons I opted for storks and the narrative being so strongly about family and protection. It was a joy to create.
